Top Technology Companies Most Active Corporate Acquirers (YTD 2025):
July 2, 2025
Here’s an informed list of technology companies that are among the most active acquirers year-to-date 2025, based on reported deals and industry trends.
- Google (Alphabet Inc.): Highly strategic, with a significant reported acquisition of Galileo AI for artificial intelligence, and Wiz in cybersecurity this year, reinforcing their AI and cloud security capabilities.
- IBM: Focusing heavily on hybrid cloud and AI, with notable acquisitions like StreamSets & webMethods (from Software AG), and Apptio contributing to its strategy. In 2025, IBM announced the acquisitions of Seek, DataStack, and Hakkoda.
- Accenture: A consistent acquirer across various sectors, focusing on digital transformation, cloud, and industry-specific solutions. They have continued a steady pace of smaller, strategic acquisitions globally, including most recently acquiring Systema, Yumemi, Ascendient Learning, TalentSprint, Halfspace and others.
- Cisco: Concentrating on networking, security, and collaboration. The completion of their Splunk acquisition in March 2024 was a massive deal, and they continue to make smaller, targeted acquisitions, including the acquisition of cybersecurity threat detection solution provider SnapAttack.
- Salesforce: While their planned acquisition of Informatica (an $8 billion deal) is still pending regulatory approval, it highlights their continued push to strengthen their data and AI capabilities within their CRM ecosystem.
- Siemens: Active in industrial software, automation, and digitalization, acquiring companies that enhance their IoT, smart infrastructure, and manufacturing technology portfolios. Announced the acquisitions of Excellicon, Wevolver, Downstreamtech, and Dotmatics so far in 2025.
- Deloitte: Announced the acquisitions of Pocketed and SimplrOps.
Other Notable & Emerging Acquirers:
- OpenAI: As a leader in generative AI, they are making strategic acquisitions (e.g., Windsurf, io Products) to enhance their AI models and infrastructure.
- Palo Alto Networks: A major player in cybersecurity, actively acquiring companies to expand its security platform.
- CyberArk: Also active in cybersecurity, as mentioned in recent reports, with acquisitions like Zilla Security.
- Visma: Cloud-based enterprise resource planning software. The company operates through five segments including SMB, enterprise, custom solution, retail, and IT and hosting. Announced five acquisitions so far in 2025 including Esculine, RindeGastos, Finmatics, Evoliz, and Your Next Concepts.
It’s important to note that many acquisitions, especially smaller, strategic “bolt-on” deals or acqui-hires, are not always immediately or widely publicized. Therefore, the full scope of activity by these tech giants is often greater than what publicly reported deals indicate. The current year’s M&A activity is heavily influenced by the competitive landscape in AI and the ongoing digital transformation across industries.
